Weaving Rabbit Hole

Thanks to salpal for her post that got me here. She just bought her first rigid heddle and I remembered my poor, neglected loom. I mentioned I was going to get her out and finish the scarf I have warped.

Ha! I ended up going down a different weaving rabbit hole. As I was pulling out my hardware to put my loom stand together, I found a bag of weaving. Yes, a random bag of woven projects.

This year for my birthday, my husband sent me away to Homestead Heritage. I’m lucky enough to live within driving distance and have spent a lot of time there. I’ve taken basket weaving and rigid heddle classes and I swear I’m going to do cheese making and pottery. Sometime.

I cheated and spent the first day doing their weaving extravaganza. They prewarp the looms and you just come in and weave the day away. I completed a cotton dish towel and a bamboo scarf. When I say completed, I mean I wove it, they cut it off, and then I forgot they existed. Oops.

Day two of the trip, I did a pine needle basket class. And came home with a bag of supplies to do more. (Of course I haven’t actually made another, but I have the supplies!)

It was a nice couple of days away. While I enjoyed using two different types of looms, I learned I don’t want to do all the prep work to weave on them. I’ll definitely be going back for the next extravaganza and keep plugging away with my rigid heddle at home.

Happy Monday y’all!

Eye Candy Friday – cold weather

Although it feels like a lifetime ago, my post diving says that about 12 years ago, Sundara (formerly of a blog called Purly Whites) started posting a a picture on Friday and called it Eye Candy Friday.

It finally got chilly enough for me to toss the hand knit bin this morning. While I grabbed my go to Sockhead and Forest Canopy, this came tumbling out and I can’t wait to see if it gets cold enough to wear it this year.

What eye candy are you looking at today?

Life Limited to 280 Characters

I’ve gotten away from blogging due to the tweet machine and faceyspace. I’m tired of them. I’m not going to delete them or anything radical, just stepping back a little. I want to spend time crafting posts, sharing my life, and getting back to having more meaningful interactions.

While I was closing down my website, I realized that I have been blogging for 14 years. (WHAT!?!) Albeit not so much the past couple of years. I got a little nostalgic and I don’t want to just throw away those 14 years. I’ve made a few close friends, I’ve lost touch with more than I can remember, and I’d love to get to know a few new ones.

That being said, if you’ve been with me a while, welcome back. If you’re new here, hi! Grab a cup of coffee (or tea) and let’s get to know one another.

WIP Wednesday (a day late, but not a dollar short)

I started this post on the right day, but life, it happens. Physical therapy kicked my arse yesterday. Here are my three active WIPs. Please tell me I am not the only one with active and inactive WIPs.

Because of the elbow, I often have to switch between different size yarn or needles. Some days I switch to weaving or spinning. ( 12 years living with the floppy paw – and still no elbow replacement. So take that, doctor know it all! ) Of course there is always cross stitch or embroidery. For those of you who don’t remember or are new, I started this blog as a cross stitching blog called Stacey’s Corner Cafe.

And there you go, I brought it back around to 14 years of blogging.

What are you working on today?

Taking it on the road

Or something like that.  I’m downgrading from my own domain because blogging is just not what it used to be.  I’ll still be holding onto the domains, just because I might, someday in the future, do something with them again.

YOU! In the back!!!  Quit your laughing.

I found the whole website thing overwhelming as the years went on and I hope that I find that spark again.

Thank you all for keeping up with my shenanigans through the years.

xoxo,

Squishy

Saturday Ramblings

Husband at the farm with his momma. I did nothing last night except knit and watch Live PD. (Seriously though, some of those officers! I need to be searched for weapons please) I had the whole cough to myself! Finished sock one for my mom. Y’all know I love her because she picked acrylic baby yarn.

I had cold pizza for breakfast. In bed. It was wonderful! Crumbs be damned! Ok, so I’m changing the sheets today, but that little rebellion felt good.

Today is picking up groceries. Say what you want about them, but that grocery pick up thing at w@lm@rt is awesome. If the delivery places could get it right, I’d go back to them, but this will do. All my meal prep is baked things that don’t require much except marinating and baking. Seeing as I’m doing 2 weeks of meals (the bike thing is NEXT WEEK y’all! I am not ready) I went for easy. FYI, meal prep is breakfast and 3 meals. For.Every.Work.Day. Further proof I love my husband. Just sayin’.

Then, I’m knitting. Mom has surgery the DAY AFTER the bike ride – y’all, could it be worse timing? So, I want to get these things done so she has something cheery in the hospital. I need to find something to binge on.

You can still donate to my ride. I’m going for $12k!

What are you doing today?

Time keeps on ticking

We aren’t getting any younger here. As evidenced by my mom turning 73. She just kept saying she never thought she would make it to 40, let alone 73. Part of her gift was these little face cloths.

I’ve finally put the Canadian drama yarn socks to bed. After darning them 3 times, I just can’t anymore. I guess I’ll have to get on that knitting socks thing. After I finish my mom’s size 11 pair. Luckily, they are with worsted, (but still, size 11!) which is easier on my floppy paw. (I totally need a more positive name for that thing) However, I injured my left arm in the Great Sleeping Incident ’18.

When the GSI’18 happened, I warped my loom, hoping to catch up on the Spunky Eclectic Weaving Club.

You! In the back! You can stop rolling your eyes right now! I have things! In my head! That aren’t brains! It has been an exhausting and injurious month. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

In better news, our Mo has been able to donate $1200 so far to my Bike MS ride (I can’t wait until my team puts in the matching amount!) and is waiting for VAT to be paid to donate the rest. Thank you to her, everyone who bought her patterns, and that thing that happened with the Ravelry Gods. So, if you’re feeling all warm and fuzzy now, go forth and wish her a happy birthday.

Happy Thursday y’all! Or something.

Freezing Farmgirl

A little over nine years ago, I came to Texas (the state) to visit Texas (the man) between his contracts. While here, I bought some yarn and started some mitts. It took me almost a year to finish them (because young love or something). From my notes, I apparently finished them while I was hospitalized for the first time for my NMO.

I’ve loved those mitts, and they show it. Felted in spots, holes in others. They’ve hauled wood, driven tractors, fed cows and chickens and ducks. They’ve been to CA and PA and Jersey. They’ve made long drives to Dallas and Nacogdoches. Tiny towns, metroplexes, camping, fishing, working, playing. They’ve done it all. They’ve been with me for my whole adventure here.

The time has come to replace them. I tried to make everyone knit some with me for CMMDI, but it didn’t work out. So here is the start of another pair that hopefully will last the next 9 years. I’m going with the same pattern because nostalgia and I like the simplicity. I do wish I had some appropriate red yarn, but I’ve had this Beaverslide for a while.

The yarn is far thicker than what I has before, and I will finish these, but I think I’ll be making another pair with lighter weight yarn. Hopefully I can whip out the second mitt before the next arctic front hits.

Happy Tuesday y’all!
