St. Nicholas Day

I think I was good this year? I’m not sure. Do I owe him a lap dance? Is he telling me something?

I know my husband is only 10 years into this tradition and he has proven that he technically understands. Growing up we’d get candy, an orange, and some type of clothing. I assume the Slim Jims are replacements for the candy because diabetic. I’m guessing the $20 is for my jammies. And well, a whole bag of oranges? Score!

Happy St. Nicholas Day y’all!

p.s. St. Nick brought my husband pods for his new nespresso machine (because diet) and jammies. I’m so glad he didn’t bring that box of Cuties he had in his cart for a brief second because I would have been paying people to take them.

Saturday Sky

Long ago, Sandy wanted to see our skies, so here you go!

Today’s brought to you by a friend’s birthday celebration a block away from Fort Worth’s tree lighting ceremony. We came down early to avoid the mess that traffic is sure to be.

Luckily, we got here early enough to get parking less than a block away from the restaurant and a few blocks off the actual “square”.

Happy Holidays y’all!

Missing Utah

It was cold this morning. Like windchills below 20F cold. For Texas in November, that isn’t so usual. I heard it was snowing on the farm earlier. Let me just say, I am so glad we don’t live there anymore.

Anyway, the point is, I had to dig into the hand knit bin for the first time this year.

I grabbed my Forest Canopy Shawl which made me think of the Utah Girls. Susan the designer (also the designer of the blue cowl in the picture) and Margene who hand dyed and gifted me the yarn that it was knit with.

I pulled out my extra long floppy warmers. They go all the way to mid bicep which helps keep my elbow (and the metal inside) from getting cold. They were inspired by Cheryl and her gauntlet mitts. Yes, I steal ideas from my friends. This one happened to be a good idea.

Not all of them are.

Luckily, I’m still in contact with Cheryl, but I miss the voices and stories of the Utah Girls. Laurie from AlarmingFemale, Anna from TangoGnat, Margene, Susan. I guess time marches on.

All that post diving for information had me finding this picture:

12 years ago I had the surgery that saved the use of my arm. I was also told that I’d need an elbow replacement in 8 – 10 years, but here I am with the original Humpty Dumpty hardware.

Take that!

::: side bar :::

Forest Canopy was the first lace shawl I knit way back in 2006. It wasn’t the orange version above, but a lovely chocolate cherry that I still wear. I finished it a week before I broke my arm.

::: end side bar :::

I almost sang “Circle of Life” there. Ok, caught me, I was singing it in my head.

There’s a pot roast cooking and I’m curled up knitting on the couch and probably will be until it warms up. I may have considered stealing Texas’ electric blanket, but don’t tell him.

What are you doing today?

My, we are getting old.

I was going to pose this Saturday, but life.

Our JessaLu has been blogging for 12 years now and if you go over there and comment, you have a chance to win one of her fabulous bags. Mention me and I get a bonus entry. 50 comments and she adds another prize to the pool.
I started this blog about 6 months before her, but there are a bunch of us from the “Class of  2005” that are still around. Some of us post a bunch, and some of us aren’t that consistent (because FB and Twitter and Ravelry or life).

I’d like to make a better effort to blog again because I would like a slower pace. Everything on FB and Twitter is instantaneous. I’ve shut off my phone notifications for both and have been making an effort to step away a little. I noticed I was reposting a ton of memes instead of quality posts. I really enjoy those “memories” that pop up every day and I’d like to see my life instead of something meaningless.

I’m totally not doing a “new year, new me” post. I’ve just noticed things in my life that I would like to change.

Like getting this weaving going. This will be the first project on Mama Cass. (Someone reminded me that I need to name my lovelies)

Happy Monday y’all!

Family vacation

We went camping at Mustang Creek October 7 the through the 9th. It was the first time nighttime temperatures dipped into the 50’s this fall. And the only fall like temperatures we’ve had. It has been in the 80’s all day since then. I can’t wait for our next trip.

Yes, there is even a picture of some knitting in there. It was hopefully for my swap partner, but shit happens and I haven’t picked it up since.

Did I mention I put the tent up all by myself?

Happy Thursday y’all!

Resting

Three days of keeping up with Rosie made me just want to sit on the couch and weave. Ok, 3 days of Rosie and two nights of not sleeping well.

There was no What’s for Dinner Wednesday because I picked up rotisserie chicken from Boston Market.  Texas didn’t want to go to the gym after work, so I had to come up with dinner on the fly.

F.N. Pope (Fish Nugget) died last night, so I cleaned the tank and picked up Eric IV aka Quad Shot today. Fishy was a “rescue” fish, so he came with his name. With Quad Shot went back to naming all of our fighting fish Eric. The first two commited suicide and Trey (Eric III) was just belly up one day.
