I know, you guys in other parts of the country will scoff at me, but Y’ALL! Below freezing overnights and 25 degrees below normal is crazy! This came in a month early for us. I want my 70’s!
I finally was able to get my US 6 dpns so I can finish off the sleeves. I have eleven billion US7 and US5, but couldn’t find the size I needed. One sleeve is ready for the new needles, but I have to finish the decreasing on the other. This also means that I have to get serious about button band color choice. I don’t want to do all that work and hate my decision.
Lots of changes coming around chez Dervish. I’m hopefully going back to school in December (please send good thoughts/juju/prayers/spells that the student loan goes through). I need this. I really need this. I would have liked to start in November, but start day was the same as hernia day.
Halloween just doesn’t feel like Halloween this year, so I’m doing nothing but staying warm tonight.
What are you doing?
So much fun! So cold! The first night anyway. It got down to 32 degrees. We purchased a sleeping bag that is rated to 10F and it worked fabulously!
I made the man make the fire and coffee that first morning – because I was busy staying warm in the sleeping bag. After warming up, I spent a few hours sitting by the lake “fishing”. By that I mean I had my pole out, but was really knitting and zoning out.
Morning two, (and my Saturday Sky) I made the fire and coffee. And did some more lake sitting. Just being out there alone for a few hours was amazing. We didn’t go out in the boat until Sunday, and that was fine. For such a popular fishing lake, there were no bites the whole 4 days. I think the cold front may have stunned the fish as much as it stunned us.
My stack of Stitched by JessaLu bags post washing. MAN! They all smelled like campfire! But the great thing is, they wash great and keep their shape. They kept me organized and kept everything inside smoke free.
And that brings me to my 15th Anniversary giveaway. I know there will be a Stitched by JessaLu bag and maybe something else depending upon the response.

Now, I’m off to pick up the fur balls and finish my 4th load of laundry. Socktoberfest update next week when I’m not busy being so chill that I forget I have a phone.
Happy Tuesday y’all! (and a belated Happy Thanksgiving Canadians!)
A couple of times a year, I like to travel to Waco and visit Homestead Heritage. Sometimes I go for basket weaving with Martha, sometimes, just go to relax and get away, and I’ve taken all of their rigid heddle classes. I have plans for cheese making, blacksmithing, and pottery.
I could sit under this tree every day for the rest of my life. I sometimes wonder if my life was different if I wouldn’t join the community.
This trip, I went for the Weaving Extravaganza and I spent two days weaving a waffle weave towel set in natural cotton.
I loved it so much, I want to make a set with some of the other natural cotton colors. Maybe even one of each color. I was invited back when the ladies do their personal towels later in the year to do just that.
After less than 24 hours at home, I’m off for a camping trip with my husband and some friends in Wichita Falls. A crazy cold front came through and the low tonight is going to be 37. I’ve brought knitting.
Send firewood and booze.
Happy Friday y’all!
Yeah, yeah. I’m posting. I’ve been inspired by Carol at Black Bunny Fibers. So, as my motivation, I’m using Socktoberfest. At least I should get a couple of posts out of it.
Speaking of Socktoberfest, anyone remember Lolly? Last thing I saw was her starting to do yoga. She really inspired my knitting choices for a while and I miss her voice.
Here are the socks currently on the needles:
Striped Socks on the left, inspired by the wonderful Manatee Mo. My Autumn Adventure Socks are on the right. They were cast on for a camping trip to Mineral Wells and worked on at the drag races, Mariposa Market, and walking the local parks.
Happy Sunday y’all!
4 months since my last post. And now y’all know why I stopped paying to host my own website.
Life, it is still crazy and some days I wish I was an attention seeking drama queen, but I am not one of those people.
I’ve started therapy, which is has been awesome. I’m finding me again. One of the suggestions was meditation and so I’m using knitting. No thinking, stockinette. Just knitting. Sure, I have harder projects, but I save the easy stuff for meditation.
I’ve finished two sweaters for me, one for my mom’s dog (despite the cat modeling it), and a shawl.
I’ve also had adventures in Nacogdoches, at the zoo, and hanging with friends new and old. I have two sweaters, two pairs of socks, and a shawl on the needles.
I raised money for the WalkMS (which was cancelled due to rain) and I’m still raising money for the BikeMS. (Yes, you can still donate at the link) And if y’all want to do some good and in the meantime make someone suffer, you can donate to this link. (I have met my minimum, this person has not.)
I’m doing well health wise and have been fitted for an AFO for the beginning of foot drop. I wore high heels, probably for the last time. I had my infusion in my favorite zebra room. I’m looking at surgery this summer and am debating a go fund me for the hospital copay. $2k is a chunk of change. I’ll drop my PayPal here in the meantime if anyone feels like helping.
There you go, my first quarter summed up in a blog post.
How has your year been going?
I think I was good this year? I’m not sure. Do I owe him a lap dance? Is he telling me something?
I know my husband is only 10 years into this tradition and he has proven that he technically understands. Growing up we’d get candy, an orange, and some type of clothing. I assume the Slim Jims are replacements for the candy because diabetic. I’m guessing the $20 is for my jammies. And well, a whole bag of oranges? Score!
Happy St. Nicholas Day y’all!
p.s. St. Nick brought my husband pods for his new nespresso machine (because diet) and jammies. I’m so glad he didn’t bring that box of Cuties he had in his cart for a brief second because I would have been paying people to take them.
Long ago, Sandy wanted to see our skies, so here you go!
Today’s brought to you by a friend’s birthday celebration a block away from Fort Worth’s tree lighting ceremony. We came down early to avoid the mess that traffic is sure to be.
Luckily, we got here early enough to get parking less than a block away from the restaurant and a few blocks off the actual “square”.
Happy Holidays y’all!
