Manic Tuesday?

It’s been a little crazy around here.

Shut up peanut gallery.

Besides all of the general “clean up yard after tenants neglected it for a year” and “fix up the dock and fish shack” stuff, today we ran around pricing beds and buying junque for the house.  We ended up with a king size – WOO!  Room to sleep!

The best purchase I made today?

Texas 057

A Mossberg 500 .410 pump action field rifle.  My cold dark heart is going pitter patter.  While I was talking to the guy at the gun shop about where and why and all that fun stuff, his comment was “even crack addicts know the sound of a pump action rifle”.

Because I was blog slacking (but not life slacking) yesterday and most of today, (Although, I did get a few rounds done on a sock while Texas was playing in Home Depot) here’s the Manic Monday stuff:

What’s one of the simple pleasures in your life? Sitting on the dock or the tractor. Stacey

What do you like to snack on when you watch a movie? Cheese and crackers Stacey (I told him he couldn’t use that answer… but he won’t change it)

If you were a Survivor contestant, what would be your luxury item? Yarn and needles.  Do you know all the crap I could make? Clothing, fishing nets, blankets. Swiss army knife (I though for sure he was going to say Stacey again, but he wisened up)

I was going to share a bonus video, but you tube doesn’t like avi files – and I don’t feel like playing around right now.

Hope y’all had a great Tuesday!

Just when I was getting used to yesterday, along came today

I worked out at the land yesterday.  I didn’t really want to leave the lake, but I did.  I may have eluded to some things in email, but here is the whole story.

There’s a building out there, mostly full of junk.  There is also some old furniture in good condition, and I loves me some old furniture, so it is worth going through. Yesterday morning, in my pouty, moody, “I don’t want to go” state, I said we should just burn the thing down.

Texas 024

I don’t want to leave the lake either mom!

Common sense (Texas) prevailed for a while and I got to take my anger out by setting a huge teddy bear on fire.

But I digress.

He reminded me that we were going to use the tin for animal shelters and he wanted to see if some of the wood was salvageable for the fish shack.  We we did get a couple of nice chest of drawers and some shelves out.

By the end of the day, we had found a wild mold problem in the one room and Texas was agreeing with my original assessment.  So this weekend?  If it’s not too windy?  I get to burn a building down.  WOOT!

Ooops! Hey look!  Manic Monday on a Tuesday, because I’m guessing Monday was really manic.

Of all your favorite foods, which one would you find the most difficult to give up for the rest of your life? Fruits.  There is something so right about melons in the summer, strawberries and oranges, oh let’s not forget grapefruits!  A nice crispy apple or pear.  YUM! Lasagna

Which month of the year do you think best describes your personality? August March

If you could be a contestant on any game show, past or present, which show would you pick? Queen for a Day. Because honey, I would rock those kitten heels and pearls and I need a new washer and dryer.  WHAT? Survivor

I’ve also discovered that, I’m a lefty.  (I know Cookie, I’ll beat you to the punchline.  Do they allow that in Texas?)  Between the floppy and the eye thing, I shoot (and aim) better with my left arm.  I also cast a rod better with it.  I’ve noticed that I’ve slowly been doing more and more with my left instead of my right.  Who knows, maybe I’ve really been a lefty all my life.

As Texas said “back in the day, they used to stop kids from using their left hand”.  I didn’t know if I was suppossed to laugh or be miffed.

Ummm, how old do you think I am, Sonny?

Texas 060

Have a good Tuesday y’all!

Random Monday Sh*t

Proof of knitting on the plane. Luckily, everything made it through security… including me. Apparently Texas doesn’t issue licenses immediately – you have to wait for them to mail it to you – all you get is a little piece of paper with your info on. Which doesn’t help if you have to fly. Oh, and I don’t have a valid passport yet. Yeah. Thankfully, I have a government ID and was smart enough to take along my birth certificate. Amazing how every screener had different requirements for getting through.

§ On the first leg, I sat with a very nice young man who was heading to Oregon to work for the winter. His sister crochets and he had a lot of questions about all the needles. I was also approached several times while sitting in the various airports waiting for flights by people who knit or crochet. Apparently dpns are still a mystery and intimidating to knitters. It’s just sticks and string.

L.A. traffic jam as seen from the shuttle bus. Typical rubbernecking caused this back up. A very nice Mustang Cobra was totaled on the side of the road… all lanes were open, we just had to slow down to look. ARGH! Don’t get me wrong, I loved L.A. when I lived there (the Mojave desert, not so much) but traffic always drove me batty and there is a smell to L.A. that is indescribable. Kind of like how NYC has it’s own smell. The weather was perfect when I was out there and yes, I missed that just a little.

Texas 003

I don’t think “dropped a valve” or “broke a gear tooth” are things you want to hear when talking about an engine. Yep. I finally killed the ole girl. Texas is going to take her apart today to get a better look. I’m already shopping for replacements. I just have to figure out how to entertain myself until it’s fixed or replaced.

Oh! I warped the loom yesterday and loaded the shuttles last night. I may actually get some weaving done if the arm chills out. As a back-up, I’ve pulled out my weavettes and some yarn.

It’s nice to start finding stuff after moving. Although the knit socks are still eluding me. Which is both saddening and maddening at the same time.

Texas 011

Speaking of finding things… I found a plethora of these in the “grove” of little trees. I’m walking through and marking for removal since they’re so crowded. Texas is also working on thinning out around the pond. There have been some awesome bonfires between the trees and the clippings.

Texas 015

Another beautiful sunrise. I know. Enough with the sunrise and sunset pictures. But they’re so beautiful and each one is different. And they’re inspiration for me to get my butt in gear and walk every morning.

It’s Manic Monday too! Play along here.

§ What is the most expensive meal you’ve ever eaten? For my 13th birthday, my dad took me to Stokesay Castle to eat.  Escargot and real Cesar salad made at the table.  Lobster and Shirley Temple’s.  I felt so grown up.  Unless you count the free meals I got when I waitressed at a fancy schmancy place.
§ What is the fastest speed you’ve ever traveled in a car? Buried the needle.  Don’t ask.  O.k. fine.  I had bought a Mustang GT off the showroom floor many years ago.  I also happened to know the township cops quite well.  I took it to 110 and got nervous, so one of the cops got in and took it all the way up.
§ What is the highest building you’ve ever been to the top floor of? Empire State.

Happy Random Monday y’all!

Happy Monday y’all!

Texas 027

I love the sunrises here.  LOVE!  I take my coffee and my camera and go for walk every morning.  No matter how cold.

Since I have nothing else, here’s your Manic Monday.

  • Do you do much online shopping, holiday or otherwise? Yes, I do.  I hate people and therefore hate shopping in crowded stores.  If I could have my groceries delivered I would.
  • Are you a Mac or a PC user? Why? PC although I’ve wanted a Mac for a while.  I had an Apple back in the day.
  • What website do you spend more time on than you care to admit? Ravelry and my google reader.

Nothing exciting.  Nothing at all.

Although my warping table/room is ready after a busy weekend and I think I might warp the loom today.  Or jump on the tractor and mow a little.   Since I don’t have PT again until after I return from California.  I know Carrie… it’s a hard life… but someone has to do it.

Happy Monday y’all~

Nothing says lovin’ like…

Shepherd’s pie in the oven? That’s what is on tap for dinner tonight. It has to turn out better than the under roasted chicken and too salty bread stuffing I tried last night.

Dinner fail! My first one for Texas. Oh well. It had to happen sometime… right?

Texas 020

I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward.” ~Thomas Edison

Since it was posted late yesterday, here’s some Manic Monday for you:

  • Do you believe people are basically good? I’d love to say yes, but no. I don’t believe so.
  • If you could change the custom of shaking hands, what would you replace it with? High fives? Chest bumps? I don’t know. What’s wrong with shaking hands… well, except for all the germs exchanged?
  • What is something that you enjoy that is a chore for most other people? Cleaning and organizing. When I get stressed… I just have to do it.

I’m off to try to find some welding rods again. The two big box stores didn’t have them, but the little hardware store in town says they do. If not, it’s off to the welding supply shop.

I’m also going to be busy at clearing room to warp my loom. I NEED to produce. Really.

Don’t even ask about how PT went and little Oliver Twist me asking if I could please have some more. Be careful what you ask for? At least the mini-pity party had me grow some cojones and let them know what I want to do with my arm.

Happy Tuesday y’all!

Manic Monday – even if I’m not working

There’s no squishy to be found here today.

Unless I talk about the packages I’ve been making.  But we’re not going there… mmmkay?

A cold front and storm moved in over night and I have PT today.  The arm is icky and I just want to enjoy the miserableness of the rain and feeling like crap.  There has been WAY too much squishy and I’m not used to it.

autumn 008

Since I have nothing else, here’s your Manic Monday questions:

  • What was the first thing you thought when you looked at yourself in the mirror today? Holy crap I need to get more sleep
  • Do you have a recurring nightmare? If so, explain. No, they’re horrifyingly new each time.
  • List three foods you can’t stand: mushrooms that I haven’t washed and prepped myself, papaya, and oysters

Manic Monday – Not really

Good Monday morning duckies!

Hope everyone had a relaxing weekend. My plans for yesterday got a little backwards, but I did do everything I said I was going to do.

Even knitting on Icarus. 😀 Nora, you can pick yourself up off the floor now.

Texas Oct 08 054

On to this week’s Manic Monday:

  • How many hours of TV do you watch per week? Do you feel that’s too much, not enough or just right? B.T. or A.T? Because A.T., it’s only about 4 to 8 hours a week. Living does that to you.
  • Which of the 5 senses do you feel is your strongest sense? Hearing. It’s genetic. I can hear a whisper at the other end of the house. Surprising given how as a teenager I tried to destroy it. 😀
  • What’s the wackiest belief you held as a child? Yeah. Ummm. I don’t think I need to fly that freak flag.

Have a good one y’all!

Autumn Rain on a Manic Monday

It’s Monday and it is definitely going to be Manic. So here’s this week’s questions:

  • What is one thing you admire about each of your parents? With my family, this is a hard question.
  • Which parts of your home do you like best? The kitchen because I love to cook and bake. It’s not the best kitchen in the world, but I love the magic and fun that happens there.
  • Which would you prefer and why? To have every stoplight turn green upon your arrival for the rest of your life or to have one week of the best sex any person ever had? I’d say the stoplights. It would make my day go SO much faster.

Just me this time.  Texas is sleeping off the busy weekend.  Which pretty much only included the race.  Friday was fubar’d – but they have First Monday Trades Day every month, so I’m not too upset.  I’ll see it next month.  We got home later than expected yesterday and knitting was actually the last thing on my mind. I just wanted a hot shower and a real bed.

Sadly, I could not find my camera, so I have no evidence of my mad camping skillz.

My early years as a girlscout did finally come in handy.  (It was either that or just being too lazy to clean my car out)  Sunday morning rolled around and they pulled out the coffee maker… only to discover the piece where the filter and coffee grounds go was missing.

Yeah.  Let that one sink in for a minute.  O.o

Luckily, I had both coffee bags and instant rolling around my car.  Left over from the three cross country trips.  Everyone survived and there was no need to call the authorities.

Manic Monday 013

Even though they’re calling for rain…doesn’t today’s sunrise looks full of hope and promise?  What do you think?

Happy Monday y’all!

p.s.  I’m thinking of changing my theme again… any suggestions?

Manic Friday Eye Candy

Well kidlettes, it’s another Manic Monday Tuesday… ummm… Thursday Friday?

  • What is the most useful gift you’ve ever been given? One Christmas I received and assortment of power tools. Really. Books
  • Name the most terrifying moment of your life so far. We won’t go with the first, but the second was being told that all the doctor could do was to fuse my arm at 90 degrees. (Thankfully, I got a second opinion.) Being told that I would not walk again. (Luckily, also a false prediction)
  • One hot summer afternoon, while walking through a parking lot at a large shopping center, you notice a dog suffering badly from the heat inside a locked car. What would you do? Call the cops, tell them what was going on and then break the window while on the phone… so I wouldn’t get arrested. Jail scares me. Call a cop

I know. Time moves incredibly fast here.

That’ it! That’s my story!

There is some weird time vortex in East Texas.

Apparently, it makes time move so fast that you get bat signals from big sisters making sure you’re ok. (yes, I am) And strange e-mails asking if you’ve been chopped up and left for dead. (No, I’m still in one piece)

Momma's lane

Country Eye Candy

No knitting pictures as I can’t find my stupid camera. I’m working on the Momma scarf and can only knit two rows at a time (knit and purl back). Knit is good, purl is hard and forget k2tog. WOO! I know I have an elbow with that one!

Since it also appears that I’m too busy to blog, I’ll let you know that this weekend is going to be a busy one. Tomorrow is the first day of First Monday Trades Day and I’m supposed to be going with Texas’s mom (I’m going with or without.. it sounds like fun). Saturday is racing in Evandale. Which means camping in a tent since the hurricane evacuees have taken all of the hotel rooms.

You heard that right. Me. In a tent.

Sunday includes a knitting thing at the local shop (they only get together once a month) and even if I can’t knit, it’ll be nice.

Happy Weekend y’all!

Manic Monday – I still got nothing but answers

Like I said, being laid up from the arm surgery and the biopsy has not made for an exciting life. Unless a meteor crashes in my back yard or there’s a major earthquake, you all still get to read Q&A’s.

Keep them coming. Please. I need blog fodder.

A follow up question from Carrie:

I just have one question for Texas – assless chaps (aren’t they all that way?) on HER or on YOU?
Riding a motorcycle? Me. Other than that… her. As to if “aren’t they all that way?” – yes, but for them to be assless, you don’t wear anything under them.

And one from Cookie:

I think I shocked Nora. 0.o I shouldn’t be proud of that, should I? *L*

You should absolutely be proud of that.

Next up, Nora added some to the mix:

  • Chocolate or fruit-based desserts? Fruit based Fruit based chocolate
  • Winter or summer? Summer! Unless it’s a place that is warm in the winter. I think I’ve completely discussed my feelings about snow and cold. Summer. It snows in the winter. I hate snow.
  • Do you untie your shoes before you take them off? No. No.
  • Burger and fries or “just a salad?” Depends where I’m eating. If I’m going to Micky D’s, I’m not going there to eat healthy. You know what I mean? Burger and fries… you have to have your meat. I am from Texas. Bison burgers are my favorite.
  • Coke or Pepsi? Pepsi. Coke.
  • Sting or Bono? Can’t I have both? Fine, Sting was my first love, so I’ll go with him. Sting. Got one word for you – tantric.
  • Coffee or tea? Coffee Morning needs coffee, tea the rest of the day. Oh hell, coffee ALL DAY LONG.
  • Gin or vodka? Vodka Vodka
  • Palin or Biden? Neither. Ok, the lesser of two evils… Biden. But can’t he be a presidential candidate instead of the other two? None of the above. Ron White? 😀

Now for a little Manic Monday:

  • What’s worse, physical or mental cheating? Why? Mental. Physical is just that, physical. A chemical/ body response. Mental cheating is a conscious choice. Being emotionally involved with someone is far worse than just physically cheating.
  • Do you think men and women can be just friends? Why or why not? Yes. I’ve done it. Yes. I have friends that are women.
  • How do you feel about dating co-workers? Have you heard the phrase “don’t shit where you eat” ? Maybe, but it would have to be something special. You shouldn’t sleep around where you work. It gets complicated
